Interoperability

Definition

Interoperability- a property refering to the ability of diverse systems and organizations to work together exchanging and using exchanged information without special effort on the part of the customer. It is also known as "the ability to exchange and use information."

How to achieve interoperability

Product Engineering: Puts into effect the common standard... intending to achieve interoperability with other products using the same standard

Industry/Community Parnership: Sponser workgroups trying to define a common standard that will allow systems to intercommunicate.

Common Technology and IP: Similar systems and technology speed up and reduce the complexity of interoperability, thus allowing systems to intercommunicate more readily.

Standard Implementation: Common agreement using national or international standards.
